Brave Auto International takes a hands-on approach, with Mark personally managing the buying side so customers can bid with confidence. With over 30 years in Japan’s dealer-only auctions, buying and selling at auction, Mark is known for accurately reading auction inspection sheets and filtering out vehicles that are likely to become headaches.

In Japan, every auction vehicle is inspected by the auction house and an inspection sheet is provided for buyers to review. Yes, inspection sheets aren’t perfect, and there are plenty of mixed reviews online. The difference is experience, knowing how each auction writes their notes, what certain wording usually points to, and how to spot red flags quickly before a bid is placed.

Lately, some businesses (usually the new kids on the block) have been pushing the idea that you must inspect vehicles in person before buying. They’ll often show “worst-case” examples as proof, and some are a bit fabricated. In many cases, this is simply scare tactics used to win business. You’ll see them posting auction sheets and vehicle photos of vehicles at auction on social media, but when Mark looks at the same sheet, the problems are clear. Most of those cars are not vehicles he would have entertained at all, and he wouldn’t waste time looking at them.

The truth is there are over 100 auctions every week across Japan, so attending them all is impossible. Even when you do attend, it’s fast-paced and messy. Vehicles can be dusty, weather can be bad, conditions can be hot, and it’s easy for anyone to miss something when you’re moving quickly.

Mark is also honest, he doesn’t always get it right. That’s why every vehicle we purchase is re-inspected at our yard in a calmer setting before shipping. If a real issue pops up, we can also re-sell the vehicle back at auction. As a general average, out of 100 vehicles purchased, about 2–3 go back to auction, and most are vehicles Mark advised against or clearly labelled as higher risk, but the customer still decided to go ahead.

When you work the auctions daily for decades, you learn the language behind the inspection sheets what’s minor, what’s costly, and what to avoid entirely. Below are real customer purchases, from heritage classics to current model vehicles, bought with discipline and verified again before shipping.

Japan's Best & Largest Dealer Only Auction Network

Japan’s used JDM vehicle market operates at an immense scale, and the backbone of this system is its nationwide dealer-only auction network. Licensed motor vehicle dealers across Japan buy and sell inventory—especially trade-ins and surplus stock—through closed auctions held at state-of-the-art facilities.

While not all auctions are dealer-only, the most reputable and high-volume networks—such as USS, HAA, and JAA—are strictly limited to licensed dealers. These are not small-scale events; over 50 auction houses operate weekly across Japan, collectively offering tens of thousands of vehicles every week including insurance cliamed (damaged) vehicles.

Because these auctions are not open to the public, vehicles are bought and sold at genuine wholesale prices—making this the most cost-effective source for purchasing vehicles in Japan.

If you’ve ever visited Japan, you may have noticed that most new car dealerships only handle new vehicles. Trade-ins and used vehicles are instead funneled directly into the auction system—one of the reasons such a high volume of vehicles move through this network every week.

Due to the complexity of the motor vehicle registration (change-of-ownership) process in Japan, there is effectively no true private marketplace for vehicles. Around 99% of private sellers or non–motor-vehicle trade businesses sell their vehicles to licensed motor vehicle dealers. These vehicles are then automatically funneled into the auction network.

Japan does not have an “Auto Trader” private seller style magazine or online platform where private sellers commonly list their vehicles. For most individuals, completing a change of ownership is very difficult and complicated unless they are a licensed motor vehicle dealer, which is why so many vehicles flow directly into the dealer and auction system.

USS Ninja vs Third-Party Auction Search Sites

USS Ninja is the official online JDM car auction search tool operated by USS Auction Group Japan—the country’s largest and most advanced dealer-only vehicle auction network, also covering HAA and JAA auctions. With access to some of the world’s biggest car auctions, USS Ninja gives you an unrivaled window into Japan’s vehicle marketplace.

Unlike generic search platforms, USS Ninja delivers real-time listings, full underbody and wheel/tire high-resolution photos, 360-degree interior photo, correction notices, high-resolution seller-uploaded images, and more—features you simply won’t find on any other third-party systems. For serious buyers, this is an essential tool for transparent, confident purchasing.

Access to the USS Ninja system is exclusive to licensed USS members, who are authorized to provide clients with this premium auction access.

There are two types of auction search tools used in the industry:

✅ USS Ninja (Official)
  • Operated by USS Auction Group Japan

  • Real-time listing updates

  • Full access to correction notices, C-PAS photos, and more

  • Transparent: agents cannot manipulate listings

  • Membership access only via licensed USS members

⚠️ Third-Party Auction Sites (Unofficial)
  • Run by offshore tech companies (often based in Russia)

  • Crawl listings with 12–24 hour delay

  • Do not show correction notices

  • Limited or missing images from USS, JAA, HAA

  • Auction agents can control and filter what the user sees, including prices

  • Hosted outside Japan due to local legal restrictions

🛑 Sold or Not Sold Results: USS Auction Group does not permit public display of sale prices on the Ninja platform or third-party tools. This restriction protects Japanese dealer privacy, as these are dealer-only auctions.
📩 If you’d like to know what a specific vehicle or model sold for, simply email us with the lot or bookmark details from your Ninja access — I’m happy to provide the result if available.

Note:
USS Ninja is not controlled or edited by us. We are only authorized to approve individual membership access — nothing else can be changed or hidden by us or any USS member.

USS Auction Group Photos & Transparency Features

📸 C-PAS Photos

These are extra images uploaded by the seller (when available) and are:

  • ✅ Viewable on USS Ninja and the internal main USS site

  • ❌ Not accessible on third-party search platforms

📸 Underbody & Wheel Photos

When the seller pays an additional fee, USS will capture high-resolution underbody and wheel photos. The quality is so good you can practically count the ants on the underside of the vehicle. It’s the next best thing to having the car on a hoist and standing underneath it yourself.

These images are only visible through the main internal USS membership site, not Ninja or third-party systems. We will include, with our auction inspection sheet translation, official links to viewing these photos.

On auction day, inspecting the underbody in person is difficult – you simply can’t physically see as much as you can from a full underbody image that you can zoom in on.

Note: The example photos shown below are not the actual size – via the official links, they are ten times larger and much higher quality.
🌐 360-Degree Interior Photo

Available for select vehicles when the seller opts for it, this HD interior view gives a complete look at layout, features and condition.

Because this photo is interactive, we have converted it to a short (1–2 min) video clip you can view here, as an example.

As with the Full Underbody and Wheel Photos, link to the official 360-Degree Interior Photo will also be included with our free auction inspection sheet translation.

🛠️ USS Onsite Inspection Service

USS offers an optional paid service where inspectors will:

  • Answer specific questions (e.g. cruise control? power seats?)

  • Take requested photos (e.g. close-up of seat tear)

💰 Cost: ¥3,000–¥8,000 per vehicle (based on request)

We use this service selectively — especially for high-value vehicles or when important details are missing from photos or sheets.

Some auction agents claim they have “staff at every auction inspecting vehicles.” There are over 100 auctions per week in Japan. Do the math.

⚠️ Correction Notices (A Must-See Feature)

When a vehicle arrives at auction, the inspector logs condition and uploads an auction inspection sheet.

Then the auction cross-checks the mileage (km) history against national shaken inspection records. If a mismatch is found — for example, 98,000 km on the speedo but 100,000 km recorded in 2020 — a correction notice is issued and shown in red.

Correction Notices may flag:

  • False or inconsistent mileage

  • Engine warning lights

  • Grading updates (due to missed issues)

  • Other red flags

🚨 Important:
  • Only the main USS members site and USS Ninja show correction notices

  • Third-party platforms DO NOT show these warnings

  • Some agents won’t mention them — especially if your bid earns them a fee

Would you still have bought the vehicle if you had seen the correction notice? Maybe not.

With Brave Auto International, you’ll know before bidding.

Real Example – Same Vehicle “USS Ninja vs Third-party Listing
  • ❌ Third-party listing — no correction warning

  • ✅ USS Ninja — correction notice clearly shown

Who Is USS Auction Group?

USS Auction Group is Japan’s largest, most respected, and trusted dealer-only auction network.

  • 🏁 Access is strictly limited to licensed motor vehicle dealers

  • 🏢 JAA (Japan Auto Auction) and HAA (Hanamaru Auto Auction) — both listed on the USS Ninja platform

  • 🚫 Public buyers and resellers have no direct access

⚠️Why We No Longer Use Other Auction Groups⚠️

We’ve chosen to stop bidding at certain auctions such as JU, CAA, TAA etc, due to:

  • Auctions owning a percentage of vehicles (conflict of interest)

  • Declining trust in inspection and grading accuracy due to the above

  • Increased manipulation or overgrading due to the above

Since 2021, we only maintain membership with auctions we trust — USS, HAA, and JAA.

This might limit your search slightly, but it protects your investment.

Why USS Ninja Access Sets You Apart

With Brave Auto and USS Ninja, you gain:

  • 🔍 Real-time listings — not delayed third-party copies

  • 🛑 Correction notice visibility

  • 🖼️ C-PAS, underbody, wheel & 360° photo access (when available)

  • 🧠 Expert inspection guidance

  • 🔒 Listings you can trust — no behind-the-scenes filtering or pricing games
